OUR FOUNDER - LORRIE SHEPHERD

Born and raised in Tampa, FL, Lorrie is no stranger to domestic abuse and it’s affects. Growing up in an abusive home with an abusive step-father, she first hand experienced what it was like to be belittled, beaten, bruised and broken. She witnessed her mother endure mental, physical, financial and emotional abuse and was also a victim of domestic abuse in her first relationship after high school. Lorrie attended and graduated from Brandon High School and began her career in law enforcement in 1999 when she became a Corrections Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections. While working, she obtained an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from FMU.

She later transitioned over to become a Deputy Sheriff with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. She served in many facets of the agency to include, Detention, Field Training Officer, Child/Elder Abuse Investigator, Crisis Intervention Team Member, Selective Enforcement Unit, Economic Crimes Section, School Resource Deputy and then accepting a promotion to Detective within the Special Investigations Department. Inspired by the power of faith and purpose and a passion to help others, Lorrie retired in 2016 and founded Project Take Back Inc. to empower and educate victims of domestic violence.
